Alan Rickman Tribute
This is not a bookish blog post I know, but after re-watching Sense and Sensibility the other day I was reflecting nostalgically on one of my all time favorite actors, Alan Rickman. Like many of the greats, he was taken well before his time. In his varying roles, he made me laugh, cry, and swoon. I must admit I shake my head a bit that people seem to associate him primarily with Harry Potter. While he played the role of Severus Snape with his usual skill, he had so many more amazing roles throughout his career.
My particular favorites are his love smitten Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility and his incredibly evil but somehow bumbling and funny Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood.
And by Grabathar’s hammer, let’s not forget about his washed-up actor trying to outrun the Spock-like stereotype in Galaxy Quest. I paid a short tribute to Alan Rickman in my book, Catch Handle, via one of the characters sporting a framed Galaxy Quest poster on his wall, and he will always have a special place in my heart.
Do yourself a favor and indulge in a Rickman movie marathon!
